Future Smithfield Vision

Located in the Square Mile and under the guardianship of the City of London Corporation, Smithfield is the largest  wholesale meat market in the UK, and has been an important landmark at the heart of the capital for nearly a millennium. London, though, is changing around it. The opening of the Elizabeth line will make Smithfield not only the geographical centre of London but also one of the most well-connected places, less than 40 minutes  away from all of London's major airports. The opportunity to re-imagine the future  of Smithfield is a result of the decision to co-locate it with Billingsgate and New Spitalfields wholesale food markets at a new purpose-built site in East London.

The London Picture Map allows you to browse the collections geographically and it's a great way to discover images of a particular street or building. Many of the images on the map are of buildings that no longer exist, giving you an intriguing view of ‘Lost London’.

The City of London official guide to Postman's Park

Extract from The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. 1886. Prowling London for antiques, Crayon stumbles upon the Charter House, home of "superannuated tradesmen and decayed householders"; one of whom gives him a history of "Little Britain".

Barbican Life is the website for our neighbouring residents of London's Barbican Estate. It aims to act as a hub for resources useful to Barbican residents, an online home for content from the Barbican Life magazine, and a general source of information about The Barbican.

The Watts Memorial to Heroic Self Sacrifice in Postman's Park, London, contains fifty-four memorial tablets commemorating sixty-two individuals, men, women and children, each of whom lost their life while attempting to save another.

Welcome to the website of the Aldersgate Ward Club: a lively social group for people who live in or who have professional associations with the City of London and a keen interest in the Aldersgate Ward.

St Botolph-without-Aldersgate is a Church of England Guild Church. Their ministry serves the midweek working population in the area of the City of London. Their main Tuesday talks and associated ministry are called Aldersgate Talks. Whilst they do not have our own Sunday services, the building is also used by London City Presbyterian Church on Sundays.
