Located in the Square Mile and under the guardianship of the City of London Corporation, Smithfield is the largest wholesale meat market in the UK, and has been an important landmark at the heart of the capital for nearly a millennium. London, though, is changing around it. The opening of the Elizabeth line will make Smithfield not only the geographical centre of London but also one of the most well-connected places, less than 40 minutes away from all of London's major airports. The opportunity to re-imagine the future of Smithfield is a result of the decision to co-locate it with Billingsgate and New Spitalfields wholesale food markets at a new purpose-built site in East London.
The Watts Memorial to Heroic Self Sacrifice in Postman's Park, London, contains fifty-four memorial tablets commemorating sixty-two individuals, men, women and children, each of whom lost their life while attempting to save another.
St Botolph-without-Aldersgate is a Church of England Guild Church. Their ministry serves the midweek working population in the area of the City of London. Their main Tuesday talks and associated ministry are called Aldersgate Talks. Whilst they do not have our own Sunday services, the building is also used by London City Presbyterian Church on Sundays.
